My studies at Melbourne University were an important time of growth and learning with the luxury of learning for learning’s sake. The most important thing at university is to try and get to know the other people in your course as soon as possible as there is also a social side to university life. It’s also important to build contacts for the future as well. Don’t be shy, introduce yourself and be confident that you have something to offer people!

Getting into this course was very much on marks and the time I completed the course Melbourne University was still offering combined degrees in the Arts. My advice is that you try and research what you are applying for as much as possible and be sure to ask other students who have studied there.

Melbourne University is well endowed with scholarship money, however I didn’t do my BA on a scholarship. Scholarships are often more so rewarded for vocational courses or at post-graduate level. The scholarships page at Melbourne University website has much to offer.

Was a good course, but is as often with BA course relies on self motivation and it’s up to you as a student to push yourself. Often students think that a BA is an ‘easy’ course. Well, if you do the bare minimum it’s true that you won’t be doing much but university is about pushing your boundaries. The best way to motivate yourself is to choose subjects in the BA that you are interested in and passionate about.

I didn’t live on campus ,living on campus is very expensive. Frankly it’s probably more expensive to live at Melbourne University instead of other universities only because of its location in the city. Food on the campus is not terribly cheap compared to the food stores off campus. Off campus on Lygon Street is the restaurant strip and that is worth having a meal at from time to time. Part-time work is easy to find if people want it, restaurants are always hiring, however be sure that you are aware of your rights as a worker in Australia and be sure that they are paying appropriately.

Yes, Melbourne University is a very well respected provider of higher education and employers particularly in South East Asia have a lot of respect for the course. There is a broader alumni association that the university offers, but there was nothing in the faculty of Arts itself when I was studying there. From the end of my BA I actually went onto postgraduate studies.
